     to grasp. Cf. Auf, Oaf.]
     1. An imaginary supernatural being, commonly a little sprite,
        much like a fairy; a mythological diminutive spirit,
        supposed to haunt hills and wild places, and generally
        represented as delighting in mischievous tricks.
