     (Zo["o]l.)
     A large Australian bird, of two species (Dromaius Nov[ae]-Hollandi[ae]
      and D. irroratus), related to the
     cassowary and the ostrich. The emu runs swiftly, but is
     unable to fly. [Written also emeu and emew.]
