  Glowworm \Glow"worm`\, n. (Zool.)
     A coleopterous insect of the genus Lampyris; esp., the
     wingless females and larv[ae] of the two European species
     (L. noctiluca, and L. splendidula), which emit light from
     some of the abdominal segments.
