     'o`ryza rice. Cf. Rice.]
     1. (Bot.) A grain yielded by a hardy cereal grass (Secale  cereale
        ), closely allied to wheat; also, the plant
        itself. Rye constitutes a large portion of the breadstuff
        used by man.
