  Sea clam \Sea" clam`\ (Zool.)
     Any one of the large bivalve mollusks found on the open
     seacoast, especially those of the family Mactridae, as the
     common American species. (Mactra solidissima or Spisula solidissima
     ); -- called also beach clam, and surf clam.
