  Polychroite \Pol"y*chro*ite\, n. [Poly- + Gr. ? color: cf. F.
     polychro["i]te.] (Chem.)
     The coloring matter of saffron; -- formerly so called because
     of the change of color on treatment with certain acids; --
     called also crocin, and safranin.
