     It. viola, LL. vitula; of uncertain origin; perhaps from L.
     vitulari to celebrate a festival, keep holiday, be joyful,
     perhaps originally, to sacrifice a calf (vitulus; cf.
     Veal). Cf. Fiddle, Vielle, 2d Viola, Violin.]
